K.I.S.S.
Keep It Sexy & Simple
By Krystle Gray
In 2011, Mya came out with an album entitled K.I.S.S; which stands for Keep It Sexy & Simple. Not
only do I love the songs on the album but I am starting to incorporate the meaning behind K.I.S.S. on my journey to getting healthier and sexier! My goal is a simple one; to be healthy and active. The meaning has taught me I have to start where I am to get to where I want to be. The road ahead is a long one but it begins with one step in the right direction. I have to get out of the mind frame that I have to “keep up” with someone else’s standards and start learning to keep it simple and sexy. I don’t have a specific # I want to lose or a target weight goal; I just want to be healthy and active. With that being said, here is my 4 step K.I.S.S plan to get healthy.
My first step is to incorporate more water in my diet and reducing the amount of juice I drink. It is a fact that water is a key component in weight loss/management. As I age, I am starting to drink it more and more. Now when I go to restaurants I don’t order my usual iced tea. I opt for ice water with extra lemons. I squeeze the lemons in the water and drink it like that. So my goal by the end of January is to drink at least 100 oz of water which is the equivalent of about 7 sixteen ounce bottles.
My next step is to start back dancing. Whether it’s in the house while I am cleaning or just lounging around or doing Zumba; I plan to dance. Dancing has always helped me lose weight in the past. It is a passion of mine and something that doesn’t require much motivation to do. I found that when you do something you enjoy, you end up doing it more frequently. They say that a body in motion
stays in motion, so I will keep this body moving and grooving to the tunes.
My third step is to reduce my portions during meal times as well as reduce the amount of junk foods I eat. Doing this will help me to accomplish two things; It will help to keep my caloric intake low while still being able to eat foods that I enjoy. I can achieve this by eating more proteins and fewer carbohydrates along with more vegetables. Daily I plan to eat approx every four hours which will include two snacks. After 6pm I will cut off eating food and opt for drinking water and fruit if I am really hungry (which I shouldn't be if
my portions are correct). My fourth and final step is to love me the best way I know how! It begins by taking care of me and achieving the goals that I have set. Once I reach those goals, then I will step it up and push myself to do more. It doesn't stop with just reaching my goals, ultimately my lifestyle will change and the new habits will become more like second nature. I never imagined myself as a skinny girl but I do imagine myself being active and being able to run around and play with my fiancee and the kids without getting tired quickly. I do imagine myself being the best me that I can be while living life to the fullest.
Each day is another opportunity to find new ways to K.I.S.S.
